HL-CONT Plus Sewage Treatment Plants
The Century 365 Marine Services provides HL-CONT Plus sewage treatment plants (STP), also known as marine sanitation devices (MSD), are available in a wide range of sizes with treatment capacities ranging from 3,000 litres/day to 288,000 litres/day. Built with stainless steel frames and high-quality components, these systems offer extensive customization options to suit various vessel requirements. Known for their space-saving design, HL-CONT Plus plants can also be assembled almost entirely at the installation site on board, providing greater flexibility during integration.
SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANTS
HL-CONT Plus
PREPARATION: CREATING THE SEWAGE MIX
HL-CONT Plus sewage treatment plants are designed to process blackwater and greywater together as a single sewage mixture. Depending on the onboard tank arrangement, one or both streams are directed to the sewage mixing tank. Once the liquid reaches a predetermined level, the feed pump is activated and the treatment process begins.
MACERATION
The sewage mixture from the sewage mixing tank is first run through a macerator to chop up solid and fibrous components.
DISINFECTION
Following the purification stages, the treated sewage is exposed to UV radiation. This process disrupts the DNA of bacteria and other microorganisms, preventing their reproduction and reducing the risk of contamination. After this final treatment step, the effluent from the HL-CONT Plus sewage treatment plant can be safely discharged overboard, where regulations permit.
TSS/COD/BOD REDUCTION
Using Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) technology, HL-CONT Plus sewage treatment plants remove suspended solids (TSS) and lower the chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD). In the saturator, the wastewater is pressurized and enriched with air. When released into the flotation tank through the pressure release valve, fine microbubbles are generated. A flocculant is introduced to promote the formation of larger flocs by combining the air bubbles with suspended particles. These flocs rise to the surface and form a sludge foam, while the clarified phase remains in the lower section of the flotation tank. The collected sludge is transferred to the sludge compartment and subsequently discharged to the vessel's sludge tank.

HL-CONT Plus Sewage Treatment Technology
Available with IMO or USCG Certification
The Century 365 Marine Services HL-CONT Plus sewage treatment plants are available in configurations designed to meet IMO and USCG requirements. Depending on the application, the systems can be supplied with the relevant marine certifications to comply with international regulations.
Customisation & Retrofit-Friendly Installation
HL-CONT Plus sewage treatment plants (STP), or marine sanitation devices (MSD), are available in two different configurations. Standard systems are designed in accordance with IMO MEPC.227(64) (excluding section 4.2), while USCG versions are certified as Type II MSD in compliance with US 33 CFR 159. Selected models are also available with EU-MED certification.
Ease of Operation & Low Maintenance
Routine operations are fully automatic and require no specialised skills. The filter- and membrane-free design minimizes maintenance requirements, while the open construction provides instant access to all components for inspection and servicing, enabling quick maintenance by the onboard crew.
Combined Black Water & Grey Water Treatment
HL-CONT Plus systems are designed to process black water and grey water together as a single sewage stream. This integrated treatment approach enhances system performance, improves reliability, and supports environmentally responsible operation.
