HL-CONT Plus Ocean Cruise
The Century 365 delivers the HAMANN HL-CONT Plus Ocean Cruise series is an advanced wastewater treatment system designed to meet stringent sewage and greywater discharge requirements, including regulations for vessels operating in Alaska and the Baltic Sea. By combining physical and biological treatment processes, the system eliminates the need for filters and membranes.
The HL-CONT Plus Ocean Cruise system features a modular design with four independent units that can be installed separately, providing greater flexibility for ship integration. Existing onboard tanks can also be used for biological treatment, resulting in a compact footprint compared to many conventional systems.

PREPARATION: CREATING THE SEWAGE MIX
HL-CONT Plus Ocean Cruise systems are designed to treat both blackwater and greywater as a combined sewage stream. The mixture is formed in the sewage mixing tank and pumped to the treatment plant. Depending on the vessel configuration, greywater and/or blackwater are directed to the mixing tank. Once a predefined level is reached, the feed pump starts automatically and initiates the treatment process.
PRE-TREATMENT
The sewage mixture first passes through a macerator, which breaks down solid and fibrous materials. Using Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) technology, suspended solids (TSS) are separated while chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD) are reduced. With the addition of a flocculant, sludge foam forms on the surface and the clarified phase remains in the lower section of the flotation tank. The collected sludge is then transferred to the ship's sludge tank.
BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT
The pre-treated sewage enters the two-stage biological treatment section of the Ocean Cruise system, consisting of two Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR). Through circulation between the denitrification and nitrification stages, bacteria break down nitrogen compounds present in the wastewater.
FINAL TREATMENT
As biological treatment generates biomass, the remaining solids are removed in the second DAF unit, where phosphorus is also reduced with the aid of a flocculant. The treated sewage is then exposed to UV radiation, which deactivates bacteria and microorganisms by disrupting their DNA. Following this final stage, the treated effluent can be safely discharged overboard where permitted.

HL-CONT Plus Ocean Cruise Treatment Technology
Alaska & Baltic Sea compliance
Ocean Cruise systems comply with the strictest regulations on sewage discharge in place today. The IMO‘s MEPC.227(64) section 4.2 regarding the Baltic Sea as MARPOL Annex IV special area as well as US 33 CFR 159 Subpart E regarding the waters of the state of Alaska.
Compact footprint
Due to our technology and design, Ocean Cruise systems can be significantly smaller than comparable systems from other manufacturers. Ship tanks can be converted to MBBR modules which further reduces the already small footprint of the system.
Combined Black & Grey Water Treatment
HL-CONT Plus Ocean Cruise systems are engineered to process black water and grey water together as a single sewage stream. This approach enhances treatment efficiency, improves system reliability, and supports environmentally responsible operation.
Easy Operation & Low Maintenance
Routine functions are fully automatic and require no specialised skills. The open design of the DAF units allows instant access to all components for inspection and service, while the modular design makes the system ideal for retrofit applications.
