HL-CONT Compact Sewage Treatment Plants
HL-CONT Compact sewage treatment plants are specifically designed for typical marine applications with treatment capacities of up to 3,000 litres/day. Engineered to deliver reliable performance in a lightweight and space-efficient package, these systems combine stainless steel construction with high-quality components to ensure long-term durability. The HL-CONT Compact handles all essential sewage treatment functions required on board while maintaining a compact footprint and cost-effective operation. For applications requiring additional features and greater customization flexibility, the HL-CONT Plus range offers an expanded solution.
The Century 365 Marine Services provides the HL-CONT Compact 0125 sewage treatment plant is available with two layout configurations to provide greater installation flexibility. Layout A offers a reduced width with increased depth, while Layout B minimizes depth and is suitable for applications such as wall mounting. Units are supplied in Layout A as standard and can be easily converted to the alternative configuration on site, if required.
PREPARATION: CREATING THE SEWAGE MIX
HL-CONT Compact sewage treatment plants are designed to process blackwater and greywater as a combined sewage stream. The mixture is collected in the sewage mixing tank and then pumped into the treatment unit. Depending on the vessel configuration, greywater and/or blackwater are directed to the mixing tank. Once the preset level is reached, the feed pump automatically starts and initiates the treatment process.
MACERATION
Before treatment, the sewage mixture passes through a macerator, which breaks down solid and fibrous materials into smaller particles for efficient processing.
DISINFECTION
Following the main treatment process, the purified wastewater is exposed to UV radiation to disrupt the DNA of bacteria and microorganisms, preventing their reproduction. After this final disinfection stage, the treated effluent can be safely discharged overboard, where permitted by applicable regulations.
TSS/COD/BOD REDUCTION
Using Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) technology, HL-CONT Compact systems remove suspended solids (TSS) and reduce chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD). The wastewater is saturated with air under pressure and released into the flotation tank, where microbubbles are formed. A flocculant is added to promote the formation of larger particles, which rise to the surface as sludge foam while the clarified phase remains below. The separated sludge is collected and transferred to the ship's sludge tank.
